Before Your Surgery
Everything you need to know to ensure a smooth, comfortable experience with us.
Preparing For A Successful Procedure
Proper preparation is critical to ensure your safety during anesthesia and surgery. Please carefully review the following guidelines. Failure to follow fasting instructions may result in the cancellation of your procedure.
Dietary Restrictions
- No Solid Foods: Do not consume any solid foods, including gum or mints, after 10:00 PM the night before your surgery.
- Clear Liquids: You may have clear liquids up until midnight. Examples include water, apple juice, black coffee (no cream/milk), and clear sodas.
- Alcohol & Smoking: Do not consume any alcohol for at least 24 hours before your procedure. Do not smoke for at least 12 hours prior.
The Day Of Surgery
- You may brush your teeth in the morning, but you must not swallow the water.
- Wear glasses instead of contact lenses. Bring a glasses case, as they cannot be worn in the operating room.
- Do NOT wear any lotion, deodorant, perfume, or makeup.
- Take a shower using an anti-bacterial soap either the night before or the morning of your surgery.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes. Consider that you may have a brace or bulky bandage after surgery.
Transportation Home
You must have a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours. You are not permitted to use a taxi or rideshare service alone after receiving anesthesia.
